Not turning in I-94

I just had a chat with my lawyer and she told me to hold on to my new I-94 (green) at the bottom of the I-797 (from new employer). In other words, not to turn that in when leaving the country. She told me to just turn in the white copy from previous trip in my passport. I am not sure whether that is correct. I have read all over that I need to turn the new I-94 in along with the previous I-94 in my PP. Any comments? What will be the consequences of not turning in the green I-94? I am appearing for my H-1 interview at Delhi and Is that something that will be pointed out at the consulate?

I do not know what the benefit is to hold it on.
Since you are going to visa stamping, if you get new H1 stamp, you'll get new I94 at POE with the same validity of your H1 visa. If your H1 stamp was denied, holding that I94 does not help anyway.
