Not sure if I should travel after my interview. Need some advice!

Hi all,

Yesterday I got my interview letter. The appointment is on Jun, 29 at 2pm in Fairfax, VA.
However, I planned to be on travel (overseas) from July, 6 to August, 6 (I already got the tickets and they cannot be exchanged)

I'm afraid that if everything goes fine in my interview, I may get the oath letter while I'm on travel (I don't have anybody that can check my mail during that period) and be scheduled before I come back.

What do you guys think? Do you guys think is very risky to take that trip?
I know that getting the citizenship is the most important thing but... damn it... I have been waiting for that trip all year long and I spent a lot of money with the plane tickets :(

I don't really want to reschedule the oath ceremony because that just will cause delays, phones calls and more troubles...

Thanks for your advice.

Just put in a request with the IO at interview to schedule your oath for after you return from your trip.

You can postpone.
Or actually you can even miss it and then you could go to infopass when you're back and tell them you were abroad, they will schedule you for the next one.
A friend of mine actually forgot to go to the oath, he realized at the end of the day.
He went to infopass the same week and he got scheduled 3 weeks later, he's now a citizen.
Do not postpone a vacation because of the immigration process, it's definitely not worth it.

Tell the IO about your travel plans during the interview, it should be fine. I agree, go on your vacation, unless you are in an awful hurry to get citizenship (as in sponsoring a spouse for a GC or something similar).

Thanks everybody for the answers. I will tell the IO then.

By the way, I still have some hope that the oath ceremony would be the same day!

It should be ok because with my current passport I can still travel.

You must re-enter the US with a US passport if you're a citizen.
But you can get a passport the same day at a US passport agency if you have proof of imminent (<14 days) travel.

oh... I thought that as long as I haven't applied for the US passport I would be ok.
Thanks for the information. It's good to know!!
