I got my green card, exactly a year back. I have just lost my job, and going thru some financial crisis. Does anyone know of any job openings/headhunters in the Philly area ? I have been trying some of the popular websites (monster, careerbuilder, dice, hallkinion) with no success. Thanks in advance, for all your help and co-operation.

Try your local newspaper on Sunday as they contain genuine ads. I dont beleive on these websites to be frankly and sometimes it is fake although there is no harm to keep ur resume on their websites, who knows someone might call you.

Most important thing is ur resume, it should be very very very strong and I would suggest u to buy resume maker software (around 20 bucks or so) and reformat ur resume. As per the market tend, a recruiter receives around 300 resumes for one openings and it is very hard to get it on top. Certification on skills might help ur resume to get shorlisted as per some recruiters.

Only 25% of the jobs are disclosed on newspaper and internet and rest all the jobs go to major recruiter firm for manpower, so it is advisable to contact all recruiting firms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your reply

Thanks a lot for your input. Do you know any headhunters ? If so, could you please pass on the contact info ? Your help is really appreciated. Thanks.

You can find a lot of headhunters on Dice.com

You can find a lot of headhunters on Dice.com.
Most of the time they advertize fake jobs, but the headhunters are real, so replying to dice ads allows you to create relationships with headhunters.

Stay in contact with all your ex coworkers. Networking with peers is the best way to get your foot in the door.

Tried all possible routes

Thanks for your replies. I have given my resume to a few friends and coworkers. It has been a month. But haven't really gotten back any response. I have 10 years of experience in DBA/Data Warehousing and Project Leadership. At this point, I am not sure as to what to do. Don't know when the job market will get better.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Since your are GC holder, you can easily join some major recruiters like KPMG, Comsys, Metamor or some desi consulting firms (you will get in 1000's) and they will find project for you.

When you are sending your resume to a lot of companies and have never gotten a reply back, it means your usual way of trying for a job is not working and you need to come up with innovative ways. Posting a message here is one of those and you are on the right track.

Now I am not trying to make light of the fact that it is a tough job market out there. But when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Some of the innovative things I can think of are find the competitors to all the companies/clients you have worked for and cold call them. Take the Yellow Pages and call all the companies that are there under software and computer related section. Also try to get the IT companies list in your area from somewhere and try to call them. If they say they have something, go and meet them personally to hand over your resume. Try to meet the person who makes the hiring decision. Also while sending the resume, send it using all forms of medium - fax, email, snail-mail, handing it personally.
