No more driving with DL to Canada...2008

Part of the article was inaccurate. It said that "until now Americans returning from Canada need only show driver's license".

This is not true. Americans coming back from Canada need to show proof of citizenship or US passport or green card to come back to the mainland.

Lee! well it depends.. If you are traveling by road then you can just show your DL. But if by air they would ask for some proof in the form of birth certificate or passport.

On the landports, they used to take oral declaration of citizenship then bordercrosser just show a gov ID would let go. After 911, this practice were virtually non-exist. Lots citizens including some old retirees were returned to get their proof of citizenship. Plus each and every vehicle is to be searched now.

one-of-u! I have crossed the border with US citizens and all they have to do is shake their affirmitively both ways to Canada. They did not even had to take their DLs out. And of course it was after 9/11.

interesting.

I am wrong. Guess my friends were so unlucky (or lucky). Everyone of them was checked for Passport or citizen card. One of them was even blitzed (searched throughly, not only trunk but even under the seats, hood, sigaritte dish....). They POE they used was Peace Arch, WA.
