No marriage certificate for Parents...

Hello,

i have an RFE for I-130 for my parents. I did not have marriage certificate so I got RFE requesting 'Certificate non-record of record'. My dad contacted the marriage registrat and they have refused to give such letter/certificate. Instead they are willing to help by issuing Marriage certificate. That should solve the problem... but I have heard that any RFE evidence requiring 'records' must be dated prior to the date or RFE. Does anyone have similar experience? Thanks,

It's not a problem. The newly issued marriage certificate will still show that the marriage occurred long ago. The date of the original record (i.e. when the marriage was recorded) is what matters, not the date the physical document was printed.

I submitted affidavits

from 2 people who attended my parents' wedding and it worked just fine as well.

I made sure that the people i got affidavits from were adults when they attended the wedding. Not sure if that was needed or not.

An actual marriage certificate is more solid proof than affidavits. Better to obtain the certificate if is is possible to get it ... and in this case it is possible.

yes, i had submitted the affidavits from 2 people...

...hence i got the RFE indicating the affidavit cannot be a substitute of Primary Evidence which is Marriage Certificate.

They have also required a copy of hospital record, etc. My parents have those in India... but should i ask them to send me a photocopy or the original as well? Do i need to get the photocopy notarized?

thanks!

Contact your local consulate. They might be able to issue them an in lieu of certificate stating when the marriage took place and that it was recognised by the local jurisdiction.

but I have heard that any RFE evidence requiring 'records' must be dated prior to the date or RFE. Does anyone have similar experience? Thanks,
