No AP ,leave US and return with GC,expected

Hi,
My wife is in h-4 now,which will expire on Jul 11,2011.
She submitted I485 and will be current on Jun 1st 2011.
She need travel to China in 2 days and she didn't apply for a AP yet. Can she just expect to receive the green card and reenter US with the green card?

I know this is a problem.Does anyone have a good suggestion to make the travel possible?

She will return on Sep.1 , and her H-4 will expire by Jul.10.
What if she get GC before Jul.10?
 
She must return to the US before her H4 expires, or the GC must be approved before her H4 expires. Otherwise they will deny the GC, or if they approve it by mistake they can revoke it later.

However, when abroad she could apply for a new H4 visa at a US consulate, if you have an approved H1B petition that extends your H1B status beyond her existing H4 expiration.
