Hello, everyone! Please help us on this terrible RFE, we don’t know how to address the following questions. Any input will be appreciated!!!!

I. Provide documentation that any of your organic/medicinal chemistry research or other initiatives have become accepted as an industry standard and that you have been credited for the development. (What I have done is fundamental research about drug synthesis for cancer studies, which is far from industrial application.)

2. Other than research grants, travel grants, scholarships, and/or fellowships,
provide evidence of significant awards that you have received as a result of your individual efforts, i.e., Nobel, Burger, etc. Awards should be accompanied by evidence that establishes the reputation of the organization granting the award, the significance of the award, and the criteria used to select the recipient. (All I have is teaching assistant award in USA and a couple of awards from China which are granted by city educational committee, which I don’t think they count in abovementioned category)

3. Testimonials describe your contributions as original, important and significant. Please provide evidence of the formal recognition that you have received for this monumental research. (what evidence?)

4. If applicable, present evidence that any associated patents have been broadly commercialized or have at least reached the testing stage. If applicable, identify the scope/size of the associated surveys and present the statistical and economical results of the studies conducted. (I have only one patent which has not been commercialized or reached the testing stage)

5. You might specify what consequences would occur if you were unable to continue your participation in the research activity. (Substantiate all claims with supportive documentation).

Those are the 5 out of 13 questions in my RFE which I don’t know how to address. You valuable suggestion and help are deadly needed.

One suggestion

Dear pw752bix,

I am sorry to hear that you have received a very extensive RFEs.

One suggestion that I can make regarding the first point "I. Provide documentation that any of your organic/medicinal chemistry research or other initiatives have become accepted as an industry standard and that you have been credited for the development. (What I have done is fundamental research about drug synthesis for cancer studies, which is far from industrial application.)" is to obtain two or three recommendation letters from people working in industry. This is exactly what one of my friends did successfully in his I-140 petition. The person could be director of process chemistry or medicinal chemistry working for the company. If they can say your research is directly related to or critical to their drug research/development, I would say you could successfully answer USCIS' above first question.

Also don't forget to talk to your lawyer.

Good luck and keep us posted how things are going!

Re:NIW RFE

Dear pw752bix,

Could you share your background and office center or officer code?

I would say, get more letters from both industry and academic people addressing the significance of your research in details.
It would be much better, if such people are outside your immediate circle of colleagues/supervisors. If possible, get a good letter from your boss describing your unique and key role in the research projects, and what consequences these projects will be suffering in a case if you are unable to participate in research.

You do not have to answer all questions if you do not have answers (patents etc.). Just concentrate on those you can provide convincing answers to.

The best of luck!

Does anyone know how to write self-statement?

My NIW-RFE requires that I write a self-statement to describe my future plan for my research. Have anyone ever encountered the same requirement? Would you please share with me how I should write the statement including format and important things that I need to be aware of when writing? Or if you have a sample letter, would you please send me a copy to ak4576@wayne.edu. I would appreciate it very much.
