My NIW at VSC ( ND March 25,2002) is approved today ( Jan, 15,2003) per online and AVM checking.

To answer your questions:

1 go for I485, filed 485 with 140 receipt, ND August, 14, 2002

2. Ph.D, 1999, 10 papers, qite a few conference papers, one membership, no big prize and patent.
7 recommendation letters not from big guys. projects in HIV (AIDS) vaccine.

My understanding is my projects field and conference paper saved me.
