NIW I485 interview in local office, and passport renew

Hi,

My lawyer just told me that my NIW I485 interview will most likely be scheduled in Jan 2003(not guarantee, we didn't get any offical letter from INS).

My passport is valid to June 2003. Please share your experiment with me:
1.How long could I get my passport back if I send my passport to chinese embassy(San Fran..,CA) for renew?

2. If I could not get my passport back before interview, What could I do?

3. There will be no half year valid left when I go to interview. Is there any trouble for me to take this passport to interview?

4. In gerneral, how long before the interview could I get the interview letter from INS?

What's the six month validation about? I didn't know much about the passport renewal. Do you mean we have to renew our passports at least 6 months before it expires?

I checked the I-485 interview part in www.immihelp.com, but seems they didn't mention anything special about your passport.
