Hello All,

My NIW submitted 13'th October 2007 to Texas was approved last week. PhD and two postdocs at very good USA universities. One publication with over 45 citations. Two awards. 10 strong letters of recommendation.

I did most of the work myself and hired a lawyer to help finalize my application and answer questions I had on letters of recommendation, personal statement and other technicalities. The lawyer, Melissa Werger Rosen, (Manhattan office) is very caring and smart and her prices are very reasonable. She wrote a great cover letter. Hearty recommendations!

Thanks a lot for all your very informative postings!

I am from Israel. Less than 10 publications. Letter by current employer mentioned 6 publications in preparation. Two awards were for teaching and Masters fellowship. One of my publications was featured in magazine. No affiliation with any society (who's and who's etc). Decent GPAs. Please let me know if you'd like to know anything more specific. I've been following the messages here to some extent but haven't payed close attention to format of questions and information provided by users. Thanks.

I received few private requests for cover letter, and would like to clarify that my lawyer holds it. I believe you can also write one by yourself.

Basically I believe a cover letter should consist of well written personal statement summarizing your career achievements and your objectives. A friend forwarded me sample personal statement (cannot not forward it myself)

The personal statement can be arranged as follows:
******************************

The above seems like a letter for EB1-EA. Am I not right in assuming that NIW letter you have to prove it is in the interest of tehnation and it would be contrary to not give you a GC. The three prong test or something?

It worked for me. Whatever category, I believe an effort to write down background and achievements in presentable way will be well received. I may be wrong though and perhaps was lucky. (I didn't get chance to read the thread provided by jk0274)

Every adjudicator has a different way of looking at applications, and a cover letter that worked for one may not necessarily work for all. As NIWSep07 says, the cover letter must be clear, presentable, written in a manner that an ordinary person can understand, and also highlight both your achievements as well as your qualifications for the particular category you are applying for. One cover letter certainly does not fit all applicants, as every person has a unique set of achievements and will need a unique presentation style.
