Night school on TN status?

Hi,

I am currently employed under TN status, my boss wants me to take some night school courses at a local college.

Is this doable under TN status?

I'm pretty sure you can go to any school you want as long as you're still working with your employer who got you the TN status. I think the only time you'd actually need a student visa to attend any school is if you are comming to the US just for school. If you're already here (which in this case you are), that doesn't apply.

So I'm almost 100% that yes there's no problem at all (unless you decide to work for the school)...

I wanted to take a night class here at a local college, and they either required a student visa, or I had to take a minimum course load (4 courses), and show that I had enough money in the bank to support myself. They told me if I had an H1b, or an L1, I could take the night class, but not with a TN.

I went to another school, and they had no issue with me taking a single night class on a TN.

Again, I'm telling you it really depends on the school, so call the school to find out.

The thing in his situation is I think his boss/company will be paying for it so that shouldn't be an issue with the financial aspects. Either way it may be up to the school but it's not violating the TN in anyway if he does go and take classes. I think that's more the issue.

You stated you weren't accepted at one, but you were at another. That didn't come back to haunt you on your TN though did it? I think that's all he's asking so that he doesn't get denied for another TN down the road because he somehow violated the terms of the TN and took some classes or something...

Why would it? One school wouldn't accept him because they were stupid, not because it wasn't allowed.

That's my point, the TN isn't violated in any way shape or form by going to any school. You just might not get in-state tuition funds though that's about it. INS won't even ask if you have attended schools or anything.

The only thing that would be an issue is if they decided to work at the school, which isn't in this case...
