i am a foreign medical grad . I matched into a residency program. My start date is jun 14. I am here on a H4 and need to convert to a J1. Will my visa be processed at the vermont service center in time for me to start. Also my current visa expires on may1 ..I will not have my IAP 66 ready by then What do I do..sbody pls help:confused:

why do u want to come on J better write step 3 and get ur H approval rather than getting J visa u will have to do waiver in MUA/HPSA for 3years

What is the situation with the spouse? J1 from H4 is tough

1) Internal conversion of non immigrant visa takes a lot of time (4-6 mo). You will have to wait.

Consulates can deny J1 visa in the future if you go out of the country especially if your spouse applies for GC etc. J1 is a pure non immigrant visa, and one is expected to show strong ties to the home coutry. Tough to prove that when your spouse is an immigrant!

Your best scenario is though your spouse or H1 as kidsdoc mentioned. If your spouse is in the I-140 stage, u can get an EAD in 2months through concurrent filing

2) J1 sucks a$$! (here is another sufferer!)

just wondering..has anyone ever converted in the US without going to homecountry and managed to start in time?
Too late to take step 3... My hubby's used up his 6 yrs on H1 never applied for GC. So i think J is best for me
