Hello I'm new to this forum and kinda confused. I apologize if I am posting something thats already been mentioned. I just recently got married on 3/7/07 (yay:D ! And settling in our new apartment :) I am waiting right now for my marriage license to come in the mail and hope to apply with the INS soon after. I came to the United State in 1989 with a VISA. My dad and the rest of my family had a process with the INS for over 10 years, after which they declined all of us for our GCs. Anyways, I'm new to all this and I'm pretty nervous. I'm going to be hiring a lawyer soon but wanted to get some feedback from people that have already been through this process, and if anyone has a lawyer that they are willing to recommend in the vicinity Los Angeles, CA.

After I receive my marriage license, what's the next step? I hire a lawyer, but what things are needed from me? What do I file? What are the steps with INS?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Yes she is a US Citizen. Other than the I-130 what else do I file? And whats an I-94? Thanks again

I-94 - white card in your passport that you received when you entered the States. Without it - you are SOL, because it may be impossible to prove that you entered with inspection.

Other than the I-130 what else do I file?
was I unclear in the post above?

You probaly can do it without a lawyer unless you have some type of situation.

If in US you file the I-130 and I485 package.

Thanks for the replies guys! Besides the I-130 and the I-485, what else do I need to send? Taxes? Marriage license? etc..? What else? Thanks again and sorry if these questions sound retarded but its because I have never done anything like this before. Also, will my passport need to be current for me to apply right now?

Wife or Sponsors tax info, employment info
Go to USCIS website get all the details:)

neshawn shouldn't advise to send
Birth Certificate
Wife's social Security Card

because they will never see the originals again.

Copy of wife's SSN is not required anywhere.

A copy of her birth certificate or US passport or US naturalization certificate are required at the time of filing. Bring the originals to the interview. NEVER-NEVER send the originals unless specifically requested by USCIS.

All of the supporting documents are listed in the forms' instructions. Do take the time to read them. Do not expect that everybody will be nice enough to spell out everything you need.

I should advise them. I did fail to mention to send the copies: however, when they read the instructions they will see for themselves.

neshawn ur way too nice dude...if the f*cker's too lazy to read the instructions, u shouldn't help him.. everything is in the documents..READ BEFORE YOU ASK QUESTIONS

Yea I know Pete.:o Trying to be helpful cause some people are just not readers. It will make the process a little harder for them:o

Hey Pete023, for your information, I did read the instructions. I work a long days at work and by the time I get to read it I am really tired and not everything sinks in, plus I get a lot of people telling me different things, I want to see what people that have really gone through it say. And second, just mind your own fucking business man. Who the heck do you think you are anyways? Thanks NeShawn, I appreciate your time. I have an appointment with the lawyers for the 21st but I wanted to get some info here first to see if it matches what the lawyers say, I just wanted some feedback. Thanks again
