Newark Citizenship Interview/Oath Ceremony

Hi Everyone:

I have just received my notice for Interview (and Oath ceremony???) at Newark. It is scheduled for 1/6/2004

I wanted to find out if they conduct the Interview and the Oath Ceremony on the same day in Newark BCIS office?

If they do hold both of them on the same day, will I get my Naturalization certificate on the same day? I wonder if someone has gone through this process. The notice that I received mentions to appear ONLY FOR THE INTERVIEW at a specific time.

I have some pre-scheduled international travel plans a couple of days later and I was wondering if someone has been successfull in obtaining a US passport on the same day from either Philadelphia or New York.

Thanks

Hi Kiran,

I'm in the same boat as u are. I have my Interview/Oath in Newark the day after tomorrow. And I have travel plans early Dec. I will be trying to get my Passport as soon as I get my Naturalization Cert.
I believe that you can expedite your Passport process. The general timeline for expedited process is 2 weeks. Will keep you posted on how things go.

Whoopeeeeee!!!

Guys,

I just had my interview this morning and took the Oath in the afternoon. Whew!!! I am now a proud American Citizen!!!
The whole process was easy... but long.
Anyways, I'm glad the wait is over. Now I need to get my passport in a hurry.

Good luck to all you guys.

morpheus0812,

CONGRADS Buddy. Are u out to file a DCF now ? Keep us informed.

Can u pls post ur interview experience ? Questions asked/a bit bout ur case etc(special situations/time out...)

Yep. I will be going to India in Dec. I need to get my passport first. Will be kicking off that process tomorrow.
I will be going through the DCF process once in India. Hopefully that goes smoothly. I will be contacting the Embassy in Delhi to find out if there are any issues with me filing the I-130 here and then using the DCF in India. I hope they can give me a suitable answer. If not, I'll go by what you said earlier, Rahul.

Also, has anyone been in a situation wherein you were single when you filed the N400, but was married by the time of the Interview? Was there any adjustment in status needed?
Please let me know. Thanks.

Please keep us posted on DCF and what Delhi Cons says

About adjustment of status, the interviewer shld have asked u your marital status at the time of interview...

Will surely keep you posted Rahul.
As far as the status is concerned... Its kinda weird. I got civilly married in India a couple of months ago. But we are going to have the religious ceremony in December. So I am officially married but not technically... if that makes any sense.
I wasn't sure if it would delay my Naturalization process or complicate matters.
I wonder if it will complicate things in the future... I wasn't really prepared for that at the interview...
Any thoughts???

My opinion is that it should not matter..... Go and file DCF.. Call or Write Delhi ahead of time to ask if they will accept so you dont get dissapointed if they dont..

Hi Rahul,

Called the Delhi Embassy. They said that the DCF is very much offered as an option. :)
So, I'll be going through that process next month. They also said, that I should not file the I-130 over here if I'm going to use DCF.
BTW, what other documents besides my IRS tax files, Cert. of Citizenship, passport and bank statements do I need to carry with me... do u know if I'm missing something.
I understand that my spouse will require her passport and a police cert. Do I need to have a Police cert. from here as well?
ANy other documents that the wifey will need to gather?
Finally, where can I get those 'packet 3' and 'packet 4' forms?
Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

marriage certificate, photographs. You don;t have to worry about packert 3 and 4. She will be gettting GC (and not K3 visa).

morpheus0812,
thanks for the update..... I have posted a list of docs needed under an earlier thread... they were handed to my friend who did DCF recently..

Carry your Natz cert/tax returns/proof of address/bascically
anything u can think is useful...

Also, some states in india wont give u a marriage cert, if u dont
reside there for atleast a month. pls get this cleared .....

Seach on google newsgroups for 'A.Chakra'. Lots of useful info about DCF

Pls keep us updated and all the best

morpheus0812,

How are u planning to enter India ? Are you going to enter as a USC or INC ? Technically the US does not recognize dual citizenship but does not insists its citizens to give up citizenship in other countries as long as they dont hold govt office.

Are you going to surrender ur Indian pass and get a visitor visa?
