I live in Virginia; I got a New York traffic ticket in Jan 2004 for violating traffic sign.
These signs were very confusing , there was a right turn for Buses only & I dint know that & in the traffic flow I took that right turn & got a ticket.

I paid the ticket some time in March 2004.

Now my problem is for citizenship I guess I have to show that I paid for all tickets.
I don’t remember how I paid for ticket & I don’t have the copy of the ticket.

How do I pull newyork ticket. Virginia DMV says that I’m convicted for that violation, it means technically I paid for that ticket. But I don’t have a receipt for the ticket.

Can any one advise me how to deal with this?,
Thanks.

Hi there!

I live in VA as well, got pulled over in June of 05 for "failure to obey highway sign". I was actually 20 miles over, but the cop was cool and just wrote me up for the above.

I would assume NY works much like VA. I would recommend contacting the court which had jurisdiction over your violation and ask for a certified copy of the ticket and confirmation of payment. It was for free at the Fairfax County District Court, so it might be free in NY as well.

I hope this helps.

Best,
Nico

Out of curiosity why do you NEED to prove that you paid the ticket? Did they ask you to do that?

Usually they don't ask for the proof for minor traffic violations, but if you have mentioned traffic tickets on N-400, it is safe to have all the relevant documentation ready. I was asked to provide certified court dispositions for the traffic tickets I have received during my interview. I did not have records for all the traffic tickets with me at the time (some tickets were more than 10 years old) and I was told to get the documentation from courts and send to them.

no actually i'm preparing the documents & in one of the post i read that i have to prove that i paid all the tickets.
That's the reason i wanted to find out how can i get a copy of it.

If the fine was less than $500, you don't have to document it

USCIS recently published information to the effect that if the fine paid is less than $500, you're not required to produce any documentation for it.
See other threads in this forum for the specific links.
Good Luck with your N-400.
Don't sweat it for a ticket!! A lot of persons have traffic tickets.
If you don't remember the details, fill out the form to the best of your recollection.

Right ... don't worry too much about it. If you would not have paid for it they'd probably know about a warrant for you. And if it would make you feel better you could document how you tried to get proof of payment (By contacting the local police station. They have a department that keeps those records) .... however, you heard it before, nobody will fry you about a missing receipt for a 'regular' traffic violation.

If you read the instructions again, it says that you do not need to send any documentation along with your N-400 app if the fine was less than $500 etc. It does not say anywhere that they will not ask for the documentation during the interview.

The chances are very very low that the officer will ask you for the proof during the interview, but still there is a less than 1% chance that he/she may ask for these docs.

All I am saying is better to be prepared than delay your case by few weeks/months. If you have mentioned tickets on your app, make sure to have the documentation ready during the interview, it may save you unnecessary delays.

You can call the local court where you got the ticket and they will send you a certified copy of the court disposition, some courts charge few dollars for it.

Your app will not be denied just because you did not have proof to pay the ticket, but it may delay the process for you.

It has happened to me and I am trying to help others. I also thought that they wouldn't ask me for these docs. proof of payment for some of the traffic tickets were the only documents I did not have with me during the interview and guess what... they asked me specifically to provide these docs.
