Hi everyone,

I am new this forum and I would really appreciate your help with my questions. I just received a job offer from US. Although the employ sponsors non-profit H1B visa, the embassy and consulate have cancelled all non-immigration visa service all over the world without an end date. It seems TN visa application is still being processed at the border. So, I would like to try this route for luck. My questions are as follows:

1) My job title is "Clinical Research Project Manager" in a hospital. Any comments if this title would qualify for TN visa? I searched a bit online and it seems there might be a chance. Any comments are really appreciated!

2) What are the documents do I need to bring to apply for TN visa. I knew that job offer, resume, Canadian passport, degree certificate, etc. are essential. Any other documents should I bring, especially those I should obtain from the employer? Thanks!

3) Specifically regarding the job offer: Is it a requirement that there MUST be an end date for this job offer as this will be related to how long the TN visa will be valid for?

4) If I miss anything, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know.

Some questions may be stupid as I just found out this may be an alternative. Thank you so much for your help!

1) the job title is generally irrelevant. What you want to do is to check the list of NAFTA professionals and their corresponding job duties (in the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook), and see if there is a match between what you will be doing and the job duties of the closest NAFTA role. For most jobs, you will also need a Bachelor's degree in a closely related field to the profession (i.e. for the Economist profession, a degree in Economics is best, but you may get away with a Finance or Commerce degree).

2) Canadian passport, resume, degree certificate/transcripts (credential evaluations also if you have a non-North American degree), and critically, a well-drafted letter of support from your employer (there's entire threads on this).

3) the contract between you and your employer is different from one used for your TN. The letter of support must clearly state that the duration of employment is no longer than 3 years, and if you bring your offer letter, it should be edited to show the same. The permanent offer can still stand between your employer and you.

4) I would look hard into job duties for your role, make sure they line up with the closest NAFTA profession, make sure you have a degree which has a strong link to the NAFTA profession you are applying under, and do a little research on the components of a thorough letter of support from your employer.

Hi Zirtico,

Thank you so much for your very detailed information and this is indeed of great help!

It seems that the most important things are 1) a well-drafted letter of support from my employer ( I will definitely search those threads here); 2) Do a thorough search about the job duties related to my position and ask my employer to tailor the letter of support to line up with the closest NAFTA profession. I used to worry about the duration of my contract since it does not have an end date. Now , it seems this is not a big issue as the letter of support is different from the job offer I received. The key point is the duration of employment is no longer than 3 years. This should be OK with my employer's legal support, I guess.

Really appreciate it!

If you are not Mexican, there is no need to use any Consular facilities. You show up at border with docs.

Resume is not needed unless you're required to prove related professional experience.

Most TN visas can be requested for up to 3 years, although some are limited to shorter periods. e.g. Consultant
