I went over the weekend to peace bridge to get a new TN for a new job.

My current TN will expire on October 11th 2007. I still have to work for the old company until August 16th, so the officer left the old TN and gave and another I-94 for the new employer which is expiring August next year.

Then I went to Toronto for a day to rest and while I was on a way back to US on the border the officer send me inside the building to see immigration.

The officer inside the building was asking me why I have two I-94 (TNs) I tried to explain and she was insisting that I should return the old TN and I told her no, i have to work for company A until next week. Then she said you have to come back to return this I-94 before the expiry date as I can't mail it out otherwise it will consider overstay (I believe she had no idea what she was talking about).

I just wanna make sure that what to do for that old TN once I leave company A on August 16th.

Thanks,

You are correct: she had no idea what she was talking about.

You cannot overstay on a TN that expires in August next year, until august next year.

Is that also correct that I can't mail the old I-94?

Will I be good that I can drop the old I-94 anytime after Aug 16th when I cross the border again?

Can I destroy it?

What is the right thing to do with this old I-94 after Aug 16th (When I stop working for that employer)?

It is not necessary to mail it (I do not think you can mail it, but not too sure) and it is not necessary to drop it off as long as there is no time gap between your new TN and the old one. Keep it for your records (do not destroy it).

Once you stop working for the old employer, keep your old TN in a safe place for your records and start using the new one for the new employer.
