New Stamping on Passport while Landing - what is significance?

When I landed in Canada first time, the immigration officer has put up a stamp on my passport which reads as below:

Immigration Canada

<Date of Landing>
Sud Ontario South
0906 Expiration

Below this stamp, he has hand written ‘Permanent Resident’

He has circled following entries from my Landing Visa:
No of Entries = One
Category
Document Number

What does it mean? Whether all PR gets their passport stamped similarly?
Does it mean that I can get into Canada without PR Card based on this stamping?

The replies from Canadian Immigartion Gurus and all recently immigrated PR are appreciated.

Is a stamp that you have been admitted to Canada as Permanent resident on XYZ date and they also write some # with hand, all get this kind of stamp in passport.

if you dont have any stamp on PP or Landing paper 'NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" you can enter Canada with out PR card till 31 December 2003.

Thanks Ginnu!

I don't have the stamping 'Not Valid for Travel' on my Passport. I don't remember anything like that stamped on my Landing papers too.

This is good to know that I can travel to Canada without any hitch if I come across any problems in getting PR Card or SIN card.

The immigration officer crossed out the visa on my passport. It is not marked as "NOT VALID for Travel".
