hey rashmi,
In ds230-I, u have a column which asks if u want to have a ssn mailed but there is also a place where u enter ur current ssn#.
At the consulate after collecting my docs, another lady appeared at the same window and asked me to fill out a form - essentially the same qns as in ds230-I which asks for my current ssn# and if i want a new card. I said yes. at the end of the interview, I specifically told the officer that i filled this form and i already have a ssn. he said it was alright and that i would get only a new card. At the POE, the lady said that i need not hurry to get the card changed (from ins work authorization needed) since i already have the # that i have been using. But all this does not mean there wont be confusions.

i will know that only when i get something or dont get something.
I would suggest going to the nearest ssn office or calling the ssn 1-800#. I've spoken to the ssn office and they are pretty helpful. They should be able to tell u what happened to ur husband's old #. he might have used it in different places and will need that org # to retrieve information. even for a lost card, they issue the same #, not a new #. I would also like to know how to rectify this, incase there is a confusion in my case.
