HI,
we all read the BCIS report regarding the new RTD color change to green.
I recieved my RTD yesterday(took more than 4 1/2 months). and the color has not change ' it's the same old document, but there is something else, the words

United states
Department of Justice,

on the cover are scraped off, and only the lower part that says Refugee Travel Document and Immigration and Naturalization Service is shown?

is this a new thing because now it's the DHS and BCIS or was it just a typo, I don't want to send it back to them, and wait another four months?

any Inputs? thanks

Its a document and its valid..Dont worry what it says on the front..Wherever you go, take your asylum approval..your travel document reciept and any previous I-94's if you have any plus ur tax returns.....Nothing bad will happen but just for the sake of your mind..

Siddig,

The demolished INS has a ton of printed Refuge travel Document (booklets) that are not used. What they are trying now is to get rid of them with the minimum cost possible i.e they take your money but still issue you the old looking one which they supposed to scrab any way. Inorder not to look bad infront of the other goverment agencies, they just scratched out their old name.
I agree with (wantmygcnow), as long as it is a valid document and issued by them (INS or BCIS) why would you care ?
It would have been nicer if you recieved the new looking one, at least would justify the wait time and money.

thnaks guys for your replys,
I really don't care how the document look like or what color, my concern is that I don't want it to look suspicious, or looked forged, what will I tell the Immigration officer at the country I'm visiting when he sees that the cover is clearly has scratched words?

U haven't done anything wrong. NOthing is forged..soo If you have done NOTHING wrong.>You shouldnt be scared EVER!..Keep that in mind!! Thats how you got it...have your receipt handy!

i just read the new application for RTD
it looks like we cannt apply the reentry permit even if we become resident
am i right?

kaoticfury,

Could you please tell us where did you read that permanent residents as a derivative of assylum can't apply for Re-entry permit? I pulled the I-131 from yesterday to fill it out and I think it is the same old form - nothing have changed.

on my application, i just find that it got more options
about 6

one of them is: " i am a permanent resident as a direct result of refugee or asylee status and am applying for a refugee travel document."

guess RTD has really been changed

Hi
I applied for RTD in July and did not get anything yet. Is there anyway was I could get it little early? How long generally it take? Last time it cam in 6 weeks but it has already bee over 9 weeks and not reply yet.....

I don't know about changes to the RTD, the application is the same old one.
for how long it takes, mine took 4 1/2 months. applied mid april, recieved sept.

I think it took Hashem_l approximately six months to receive RTD. My brother applied early June and online status says it can take anywhere from 414 to 425 days... I applied in August and simmilar message for me.

My speculation is that there is a delay this year because they have assigned asylum officers to adjust I-485 asylee based cases and after Sep 30th they may reassign those officers to there previous assignments and maybe at that time the RTD processing will be more prompt... This is again a pure speculation on my part .....

Regards,

Last year, I applied for my first RTD in ealier December and I received it the end of December. Now, I applied a new RTD in mid-August and the receipt from BCIS says it takes more then 400 days to process.

It seems to me the delay is unavoidable, but it should not take more than 6 months. The I-131 RTD processing date has changed 3 times in one month. When I first applied in mid-August, the processing date showed 3/20/2003, and then to 4/1 (don't remember exatly), and now it shows 4/17/2003.

Because the usage of I-131 form is not limited to RTD applicants, I think the more than 400 days wait time is not refering to the RTD application. Of course, this is my speculation.

I hope I am right becuase I have brought my air ticket to Europe, and have sent the air ticket money for my parents, and have our hotels booked. Additionally, about 5 other relatives will be coming along. I hope this RTD application delay will not skew up my plan. Otherwise, it will be a lot of disappointing people and I will lose a lot of money.

It hasn't changed. It was always the same. RTD applications can be filed by both: asylees and permanent residents thru asylum.
No difference if your are derivative asylee.

I guess a good conclusion for this thread is that if you are a permanent resident as a result of asylum and you can't afford to wait a long time, you can apply for RTD (4-6 month wait time). If you are a permanent resident as a result of asylum and you can afford a long wait time, apply for Re-entry permit (12-14 month).

Azadindian, go back through this forum and find one of my old posts. Some people complied a list of all countries (that we know of) that do not require VISA with RTD.
