New Proposed Biometrics at POE for LPR

Here is some interesting info on a new proposition by DHS, which will require more aliens, including GC holders, to participate in the US VISIT procedures:

http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/intera...elease_0968.xml

The ramifications will be interesting. More than likely, GC holders would have to use the visitors line now in order to complete biometric procedures. Also, I wonder how much extra wait time this would impose on permanent residents travelling. If you think about all the security checks involved in getting a GC, it almost makes one annoyed to think that you will have to undergo all the same checks as a nonimmigrant alien anyway. But that is just a personal feeling - there is of course the good rationale of verification of documents. I just wonder whether this will place an even greater burden on POE and travellers.

They have invited people to comment on it until Aug 29, and I encourage everyone to do so.

That's fine with me. I like the idea that they get a hold of people trying to sneak into the country with false documents.
Last time I entered the US I had to undergo those procedures as a tourist.
It wasn't that much of a delay in the waiting line as far as I remember.

I'm fine with that, but wonder why not for all the foreigners.

Are you talking about certain Canadian travellers? Yes, that does annoy me also, since I believe a PR should enjoy more benefits than a Canadian travellling into the US. They should not be able to bypass these security checks ahead of people who actually have a GC in the US.
