New procedure for interim EAD: you can get appointment online.

I learnt it the hard way. Don't want you guy to learn it same way. This is for the NYC guys. No need to go early at 5 AM and stand in line for interim EAD at 26 Federal Plaza, NYC.

Now they have changed the procedure. Just go to this site and get an appointment:
http://infopass.uscis.gov/info_en.php

And then just go only at the time of your appointment.
 
Clicking on http://infopass.uscis.gov/info_en.php goes to the INFOPASS page.Then on that page if u click on the "For locations with InfoPass" link, it shows up the availibility of INFOPASS in USCIS offices.

Infopass is ONLY available at the following USCIS offices:

Dallas District Office
- Dallas and Oklahoma City
Los Angeles District Office
- Los Angeles, Santa Ana and San Berandino
Miami District Office
- Miami, Jacksonville,Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach

I did not see any NYC Office there.

Today I went to Federal Plaza, and the guy used this very site to give me an appointment. Maybe this is not yet made public, but it works.

Do this:

Click on "Make your appointment with INFOPASS"
Put a NYC zip code, and it takes you to a new page.

If you put a zip code of another place, it will give error message. I tried a random zip code for Alexandria, Ohio 43002 and it tole me this:
"At this time, InfoPass is not available in your area." It did not even work for Edison, NJ 08817. Same error. I think bcoz they have to go to Newark.

Tried the ZIP code approach. Works fine. U are right.

I have a question: When fixing the appointment via INFO PASS, can one specify the date and the time for the appointment or the system will do it for u automatically and put u in the next available slot ?

The guy did it for me and I did not try again

Since the guy did it for me at the federal plaza, I did not do it again. But he asked me what day and what time I wanted to come !! :D Seems like the system will ask you what time you want, or maybe it shows you available slots out of which you choose one. I will like to know once someone does it themselves, and posts what they see.

I could have done it myself, but I did not want to mess up my current appointment that is for 15 July.
