I got my plastic card in March,2001. My passport(India) was expiring in July 2001, so I got a new one from Indian embassy in June/July 2001. There is a stamp in the new passport that says \'this is a replacement for expired passport # ...\'.

I have not changed my address.

Do I need to inform INS about the new passport ?

NO

There is no indication on your GC as to the passport number. So you do not have to inform the INS. But it is wise (although there is no law to that effect) to carry your new and old passport with you when traveling.

Yes I agree, you need to carry your old passport, especially if the new passport was issued at a local consulate, When I went back home with the a new passport at the immigration counter there, Iwas asked for my old passport.

Agree with JoeF on this one

I guess it depends on your home country as to the validity of still carrying an expired passport. In my case, I carry both the old and the new together, just in case. My new passport was issued by the local consulate outside my country of birth.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everybody on the board

Can we destroy our old expired passports? Will there be a need
at some point in the future to use it as an indicator which
countries we ever been to?

Why do you wanna destroy?

Hi AmericanWannabe!
Please, make no mistake....why anyone wants to destroy old PP? Is really that much difficult to save/carry old PP along with new PP? It\'s absolutely a mistake..if you wanna destroy, but, ofcourse, it\'s your call.
Based on what\'s going on around the world and it\'s only one record of entire history of one\'s citizenship/visas/travel records, etc.

Read back. JoeF destroyed his old passport so
I asked a question.

Maybe one day there will be a Museum of American
Immigration and you can sell your old passport to
collector for big bucks. If your passport has enough
visa stamps, you can also make a claim to Genneess
(sp? Sorry I forget the book name)
