Hi,
I was issued my H1-B visaon apr 08 2002 which is how it is listed in the passport of the visa stamp as my issue date.
Next to it is the expiration date which is 07 Apr 2003. Is this the visa expiry date or is this the validity date? Does anyone know what it is?

Now my original H1-b Is valid until Feb 15 2005 but subsequently I got another h1-b transfer and this is valid until 2006. So am I considered to be in status now? Do I need to go to my country to get my visa stamped again? Even if i go and get it stamped will it valid till 2006 or will it be for only a year.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi arunps,

Yes, the date you are referring to is the visa expiration date. However, you don't need to worry because the visa does not control your status after you enter the US. Only the I-94 controls your status while you are in the US. The visa can expire and your status will not be affected at all. The way you can know this for sure is by the fact that the US Dept. of State previously would revalidate an existing passport up until it was 364 days expired. So, obviously the visa does not control your status. The I-94 is the document which must be maintained at all times.

Hope this helps!
