i like to add few of my findings after talking to some of my friends and lawyers. Please Correct me or approve me .
they are saying the 6 month period started from the day the bill was passed OCT 17. So that mean after adding 6 month it will become 4/17/01 so one has to change the job after April 17 not before that.

What do you think immig. GURUS about this ?

Are the people who already changed there jobs are screwed or NOT?

i am not a lawyer just passing some info i found

thanks,

The law is the result of lobbying efforts. And the intentions are pretty clear.

INS interpretations (and others) may vary, as they are the ones who benefit from it, and we are the ones who suffer.

This is nothing new. And when someone differs on interpreting the law the court is available to find remedy!

Well, from reading the text of the bill that was passed and eventually signed into law by the President, that is not what is meant. There is nothing in the text that says that the waiting period of 6 months will begin ONLY from the day the bill becomes law. Under those circumstances, there is no reason to believe that the 180 days will be counted from Oct 17, 2000....

From what I have read in various sites and listening to various lawyers, it is advised not to make any decisions before INS comes out with its interpretation of the law. A couple of lawyers have suggested that INS could come out and say that it may be applicable only to people who applied for their I-485 after the bill was passed. So, I still think it is anybody\'s guess.. and not a good idea to switch companies without waiting for clarifications from the INS.
