hi
i need advice regarding reapplying for i-131 travel document.
it says on the application to submit the old i-131 as well.
now i have a i-94 attached (stapled) to that document. do I take it out first before sending the old i-131 or do i send the document as is ? my concern is that it would look as i was tempering with the travel documents by removing i-194 but then
if i send in the document as is, then i no longer have a proof of my asylee status.
guys, please advise. also if someone has recently received RTD could you please post how low you waited for it?
thx.

I've applied for Travel documents 4 times, and have taken out the I94 each time. Never had an issue. Actually, I would venture to guess that if you returned the I94 with the travel document, you'll have problems when you go to get your green card stamp, since they will ask you for it. I say keep the I94 with you...no problem at all.

Hi benko,

I would remove the I-94 card that is stapled to your RTD. Like you said this serve as your latest status of admission. That is why at the port of entry the officer stamps both your RTD as well as attaching a stamped I-94 card. One is for YOUR records (card) and the other one is for THEIR records (RTD with stamp). I did that like 5 times so far.

Well, I have different experience. I have never sent my expired RTD. I just photo copied the front inside which has your picture and numbers etc and sent it with application. They issued me RTD without any problem.

Now I applied again in July and still waiting for new one. So don't worry. Just apply along with all documents like:

-Reciept of I-484
-Copy of I-94
-Copy of your Asylum Approval letter
-Copy of Drivers' licence
-Copy of your social security card
-Of course exact fee and application.

Above is a list of the document that I always sent. You might want to choose as per your wisdom's advice.

Good Luck

Benko,

You should remove your i-94 card before you sent in your current refugee travel document.

After reading the instructions on the 1-131 form, my understanding is that you do not need to submit your original refugee travel document if the document is alreadys expired at the time you apply a new one.

If you apply a new refugee travel document, but your current refugee travel document is still valid then you do need to attach the original document along with your new I-131 application.

Please correct me if I misunderstood the instructions on the form.

I applied a new Refugee travel document in mid-August, but I have not received anything yet. 04/30/2003 is the processing date shows on the Oct 1 NSC's processing report.

Hi guys,
I want to thank all of you for giving me prompt and useful advice!

I feel much more at ease now.Thanks.

Also, whether to send in the old RTD or not I understood that on the bottom of page 1 of the application for I-131 under

"Have you ever been issued a Reentry Permit or Refugee Travel Document"...Disposition (attached, lost etc)"

attached means that the original (though expired) RTD is attached. I' have always sent in the original but I'd rather send in the copy if that is possible. If somebody knows, could you please point to where it says that the cpoy of the expired RTD is acceptable.

Thanks again.

On that question I always write "copy attached" and no problems so far.
