New H1B stamping - Canada

Hi,

Did anyone go recently for H1B stamping in Canada? My H1B was approved and it is valid from 1st of October. I have a couple of questions.....

1. How soon can I go to Canada for stamping? I mean, can I go somewhere in the last week of Sept even though the effective date is Oct 1st, 2004. I am currently on F1 visa.

2. Some of my friends were saying that it is advisable to go for stamping after I receive a couple of paystubs under H1B status. But I am planning to get married in October which would not leave much time to get all these things done. I wouldn't want to go to India for stamping, coz that would be too much pressure on me.

3. Will the name of the company help me make things easier. It is a very big company with around 3,500 employees and it has a couple of branches in Canada too.

Any advices and suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Praveen.

I hear varied things about getting a first time H1 stamped somewhere other than your home country.

Esp in your case since you want to go back to get married and all that ... if your visa is rejected in Canada, you would have to go to India directly from there.

I would say the safer bet is to get this done in India -- presumably your spouse would need to get a H4 stamping as well -- its better that both of you attend the interview together.

If you plan now, you can still get the appointment when you need it.

Its your call in the end :)

Thanks a bunch for the advice. The only thing about which I am worried right now is the processing time in India. I might not be able to spend so much of a time there. Not more than 10 days. Till now I was assuming that getting your visa stamped in Canada was easier than in India. I have a US degree and do u still think going back to India would be the best bet?

Thnx in advance...
