Please help - need info on H1B stamp in Mumbai

Hi,

I was just wondering if anybody knows how long it is taking to get a H1B stamp at the Mumbai consulate. This is for a new H1 B (first stamp). I will be in India for just 2 weeks (late Dec to early Jan).

I have held an F1 visa before.

I was wondering if I can just use the drop box?
Are theycalling people for interviews for the H1 B stamp?

Any input on this is appreciated. Has anyone done this recently?

Regards,
Aarti.

Info for you - H1B stamp

All,
I had posted a query asking if anyone had recently got an H1B stamp (first stamp) at the US consulate in Mumbai -

I live in Pune.. The US consulate has an office in Pune.. they eventually send everything to Bombay but have this office for questions/forms/drop off etc.. so more convenient... drop off your passport, documents, photos, drafts etc at this office and we had the passport with H1-B stamp returned to us in less than 5 working days..

If all documents are in order, you will get it quickly.. if not or if they have any questions you will have to go to the consulate in Mumbai for an interview.. I am told that even if you are called for an interview.. the whole process should not take more than 10-15 days..

Good luck.

Appreciate your diligence in giving your personal experience despite not receiving any suggestions.

You would have guessed by now that only people in distress visit such forums. Those who have gotten a "way out answer" to the problem dont come back to comfort similar beings.
OR
Moreover, the US consulate's response time has been erratic that it is difficult for a person who got the Visa from mumbai- say a month ago , can confidently give you an accurate estimate of when the visa will come...
