sorry if this has already been answered.

Can i get a new H1 block (6 yrs) if i retturn to india and come back in 1 yr
I am currently on 8yr extension .

i read somewhere that thats possible ONLY if I stay here for 6 yrs and do not overstay 6 yrs

Yes. You have to stay out of US for 1 year to qualify for another 6 years.

You are confused. it must have meant overstay (illegally). if you over stay more than 180 days after visa expiration, 3 or 10 years bar will apply. getting h1-b extensions for 15 years legally would not make you dis-qualify for entering US for another 6 years after 1 year break.
