New green card after abandoning current one

Hi,
My fiance is a green card holder and I am on a F1. If I have to get a
green card after marrying, can he abandon his existing one and can we
reapply together? Are there any issues around getting the new green
card?Thanks.

what basis will he be applying on?????? there are not that many ways to get a GC.

Why would he want/need to abandon his present GC?
