New foreign passport while green card application is being processed

Hi all,

Newbie to the forum here, and I have a short question. But maybe some background would help.

I am a F1 student that got married to a US citizen last June, I am still working on my degree. We concurrently filed our I-485 and I-130 forms and all supporting files and all supporting evidence. Right now I am waiting for my biometrics appointment due 10/28.

My Dutch passport is to expire Jan 30th and I was wondering if I should wait to renew it until my application is through the system or if I should go ahead and renew it prior to that. If I do choose to renew, how do I go about sending USCIS the updated documents? Same goes for my wife who has to renew her US passport.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't need to "update" them. Just keep all the passports to show them at the interview.

Probably should renew it before it expires, unless you have some other government ID; otherwise after it expires you won't have an ID which you need to get in to the USCIS building.

Thank you very much for your swift answer.

I do have an OK issued drivers license, either way I will not let my passport expire. It is just such a hassle to renew it, have to travel to Dutch embassy in Houston. And passport is only valid for 5 years, so would like to wait as long as I can before renewing it.

On an other note, anyone know what the current processing times are for concurrent filing?

Thanks again!

Thanks!

The rate they do things in politics maybe we will get a passport that is valid for 10 yrs in 2020 ;). Would be awesome tho. Or allow for renewing it by mail like many other countries do. It costs me a day or two and several hundred bucks every time.
