New employer/EAD/AP :After I-140 aproved and after 180 pending

If I have my I-140 approved and filed for i-485 and its pending more than 180 days - if I am laid off or I decide to leave my job:
1) Does an EAD is sufficient for looking for another Job or should my new employer file for a VISA (H1) in order to let me work
2) Can I stay unemployed for 2-3 months (while holding EAD)while searching for a new Job
3) Does my new position in the new company has to be the same as my old one - or can I work in a completely different field

Answers...

1) EAD is sufficient but your new employer can file for a VISA (H1). EAD is easier and cheaper.
2) You can. But at the time of interview or while responding to an employment RFE (because of quitting the sponsoring employer) from INS you have to be employed.
3) It has to be the same field (unlike Software development to McDonald\'s burger flipper)
