New Documents needed for AOS interview?

Hi everybody,

I just joined the forum, though I've been following the threads here very closely-- thanks for all the useful info already posted. I'm married to USC, living in OH and we have just received our interview notice (in quite a short time, thankfully, having applied last December).

While I was looking at the list of documents they ask me to bring to the interview, I realized that they are asking for:

=A completed medical examination form (I-693) and vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope (unless already submitted)

=A completed Affidavit of Support (I-864) with all required evidence from each of your sponsors (unless already submitted)

My question is I have already sent these along with my AOS application back in December 2005. The interview is in May 2006 and I'm wondering whether I'm fine having submitted the forms already-- the reason I'm asking is I've read in certain forum postings that some documents and forms need to be filled out again or be current at the time of the interview. My medical exam was back in June 2005 and since it is valid for a year, I should be fine in May, right?

And my wife's mother is my joint sponsor-- does she need to fill out and get notarized another I-864 form in May? Or would her recent paystubs and 2005 W-2 be enough? I'm asking all this because I just don't want it there to be an unexpected problem in the interview.

And finally, is an official copy of birth certificate necassary for the joint sponsor or would a photocopy of US passport be enough?

I would appreciate your answers very much.
Thank you.

You dont need a new medical or I-864 as you only submitted your application in Dec 2005.

You dont need another I-864 from your joint sponsor. Make sure you take her tax returns, W2's and paystubs to the interview. Call IRS and get your tax transcripts and also for your joint sponsor.

Take a copy and the original birth certificate of your joint sponsor.

Take whatever you can for the interview, even if it requires renting a u-haul truck to take all documents to the interview :D It doenst hurt to be well (or over) prepared for the interview.

If your joint sponsor has filed the 2005 tax return, you should bring these also because they're going to ask for them anyway. If your sponsor didn't filed yet, it's ok.
Do not forget to make copies of everything (BC, passport, tax return, paystubs...).

a few issues

Dear ari4u and ema76,

Thank you for your replies. I'm glad that I won't need a new medical and I-864 forms for the interview in early May. My only worry was that I actually got the medical done in June 05 and not in Dec 05 (when I filed my application). If the medical is valid for only a year, then I guess I'll be cutting it pretty close, but am still OK.

Ari4u, thank you for the IRS Tax Transcripts suggestion. I didn't even know that such a thing was available for free from the IRS. My wife and I submitted our joint tax return for 2005 today and I guess I'll be able to request the transcript for 2005 in two weeks-- my guess is I can do this right after we receive our refund? Cause we e-filed and then received a confirmation from the tax service that it has been accepted by the IRS-- I dont know whether that means I can request the transcript sooner?

I don't think my mother-in-law submitted her tax return for 2005 yet-- I'm sure my parents-in-law will get that done by April 15th, but I'm not sure if that gives us enough time to request transcripts and receive them by May 8th.. Hope that won't create a problem if I don't have their IRS transcript for 2005 for the interview and her W-2's will be enough?

I will also ask her for her original birth certificate-- I guess states issue that upon request, right?

Thank you for your time..

You can call IRS and ask if the transcripts for 2005 are available. If yes, then request them to be sent over, If not then take transcripts for previous years and tax return (1040) from 2005 and you will be fine.

Dont worry. Take what you got. You can always explain your situation to the officer during the interview.

I will also ask her for her original birth certificate-- I guess states issue that upon request, right?
You can take her BC and return it back to her after the interview though i highly doubt that it would be asked. Nothing wrong in being prepated.

Thank you for your time..

Health insurance and credit card statement

As the interview date approaches, I've been collecting all kinds of documents for evidence of relationship and for financial matters. As evidence of our relationship, I have joint bank statement, joint lease, and joint utility bill. But I've realized we do not have joint credit card statement or health insurance. Would this be a major problem in the interview?

The thing is both my wife and I are insured at the university we're attending-- that's just the way our school handles its students. But this does not mean joint insurance and we do not have each other as the beneficiary (I guess, in case of death). Is there anyway to contact the insurance firm and request some sort of statement to that effect?

Secondly, with regard to credit cards, my wife is the primary cardholder and I'm an authorized user (since I do not have sufficient credit history yet). We have talked to the firm, which is citibank in this case, and they said they do not have a joint credit account option. So they're not issuing us joint credit statements. Is there another way to show our rlship this way? Is there any credit card companies that allow for joint credit accounts? Any info on these would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Do you have EAD if yes get SS# and then call credit acrd company and they will add that person with social Number

No, that's not a problem at all

I think they'll understand your situation at the interview, just bring those documents with you

Bank statements are most important, you know ! Don't worry about that credit card thing !!

Thank you.

Do you have car insurance on both names ?

Yes, I have SSN and she already added me as an authorized user. I hope that will be sufficient for USCIS.

Does anyone know of any credit card company that lets spouses have joint accounts?

We do not have joint car insurance, though, cause we do not own a car (being very environmental-friendly:)

MasterArcht, I personally think you worry too much about that credit card stuff. I am also the second cardholder on our credit card, so I didn't bring the statements. If you have enough bills on both names, pictures, maybe some tickets (of events) on your both names, any documents showing your relationship is in good faith, you don't have to worry !!
