Never received EAC receipt number

I filed for I-485 and EAD in December 2001.
The procedure was done (as before) by the companies immigration lawyer.
I received my EAD card on January 14, 2002.
I also got notice for fingerprints which I completed on May 1, 2002.
But I never received my EAC receipt number for the I-485 aplication.Now that I have to renew my EAD card I called the lawyers office and asked the secretary for my EAC number
but she didn't give me any information

How can I find out my EAC number so I can check my status?
I now my A number, can I call INS and ask them?

When you call INS,they do ask A number, at that time you can ask about your EAC. My feeling is you have got EAC receipt no. which your lawyer must have received .
