Hey ALL,

I am new here, and glad to find this fabulous place. I am working my application, and need your opinion to see if I am close to be approved through Eb1A?

my credentials are:

1. review 7 articles for 2 English journals with all evidence, and one letter from editor;

2. 3 professional membership including one called: the american association of immunologists, this membership require the candidate: must be the first author of one significant publication in a reputable english refering journal, and...

3. 11 of my 23 articles are in english journals, I am first author 7 of these 11;

4. 2 invited talks in national and international meetings; my fiinding presented in other 4 international meetings;

5. 9 letters, saying i am top 5%, world leading scientist etc...

6. I was department head in a university, qualified as leader?

I appreciate your opinions in judging my case.

have a great weekend,

Do you have a permanent position in your university since you are a department head? If you do, then you should go with EB1b. Your background appears acceptable for EB1A. If you have many citations, then your chance will be a little greater.

Will be very difficult for criterion (ii). I quickly checked the AAI web site and the membership application is similar to many other professional societies in science.

Obviously, it all depends on the university, the department, and the role you played as head... Could perhaps be used for (viii).

review 7 articles for 2 English journals with all evidence, and one letter from editor;
Not that much more than an good average scientist. Could be not enough to evidence (iv).

To summarize:

- You should be ok for criteria (v) and (vi) with good recommendation letters and a good number of citations: How many do you have in total for your refereed papers? How many for your three most cited?

Now you need a third criterion...
- I would forget about (ii), though you can mention your memberships at some point in your memo (it sod not hurt).
- (iv) will be really borderline, but who knows... it could work.
- (viii) is worth trying if you can show accomplishments at your department during your leadership, evidenced by letters from people in your university and, even better, from other universities.

I n my opinion, you should look inot:
citations of your papers - how many and also the quality of the journals you published. Go to the website and get information. Try to get some letter from the editors that the journals are excellent and top one in this field.

Try membership in two to three societies

Did you get any funds or projects of your own?

Are you a member of thesis evaluation or dessertation evaluation committee?

This things will help to make a strong application.
good luck

Thank you all for the three replies, and these are very helpful. For more of my information:

1. My 11 english articles (including one book-chapter) received 60 citations/repriting reuquests (from 13 countries), and other 12 ones in language other than englsih had 50 citations;

2. I am PI and Co-PI for 5 competitive proposals; 5 pending patents;

3. My membership include also sigma xi, and phi zeta (http://www.cvm.missouri.edu/Phizeta/);

Could you all give a second opinion about my situation?

many thanks for your support, and I wish you all a great new week,

Auburntiger

I suggest you try
1. publication
2. contribution
3. critical role

I do not think membership will work

Second opinion...

It is better not to mix reprint requests with citations. Could you tell how many citations each of your three most cited papers garnered?

9 letters, saying i am top 5%, world leading scientist is indeed good but it has to be evidenced... With an average of 6 citations per paper, it is not obvious that it will be reognized by the adjudicator. So, hopefully your most cited papers have significantly more than 5 or 6. Who wrote your letters is also really important.

You did not comment on my inquiiry on your role as departments' head. Do you think your role was critical enough for long enough? As PI of projects, were the projects big enough to make you recognized as being a leader in your field?

Last question: once you have read the 12 pages devoted to EB11 in the USCIS document http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/afm_ch22_091206R.pdf (pp 30-41) , what do you think yourself about your case?

I think that one need not show reprint requests with EB1-EA application. Good Number of citations would be enough to show significance of work. Also remember since most of the journals are available in electronic formats, hardly few ask for reprint requests but the papers are downloaded from journal site itself.

The USCIS need to be educated on this OR if they issue RFE, you can always contact the publisher to see how many times your papers have been downloaded.

good luck
