Need to know drop dead date for adding wife to GC process

Hi all,

I am waiting for my 485 to be approved. To add my wife to my GC application process,

do i need to be married by the approval date or

we need to be married and she should file for AOS by the approval date?

Also, is the important date the approval date per the AVM or is it when i get some papers in the mail or is it the stamping of the passport?

You may add your spouse case any time before approval of your
I-485. The approval date for AOS is the date indicated on
the approval notice. It is also the date at which you
offically become permanent resident.

Act fast, or else your spouse will have to wait outside to
apply for her green card.

Thank you Ciba. Two more questions, do you know if we have to get married by the approval date or i should file for her AOS by my approval date? In other words, can we be married before my AOS get approved and then wait a while and then apply for her AOS.

The 2nd question, do you think it is ok do get married in the US?

Since nobody knows when your AOS will be approved, it is better
to act fast, get married, and file her case as soon as possible.
YOu don\'t want to risk having her wait outside to apply for
green card if your case is approved before your marriage!

As long as your marriage date is before your approval date, you will be fine. That\'s what my husband\'s lawyer told us. We are on the same boat.

If you maintain your H Status, You can even add your wife name after your I-485 is approved but before PP stamping. My friend has done this.
