Need to Hire Interpreter or Not

Hi Guys,

My friend is having his asylum interview in 2 weeks in NJ. He included his wife and 2 children in his application. He's fluent in English and so do his 2 kids. His wife can only speak a little English. Does he need to hire an interpreter for his wife? Some said he doesn't have to as the IO won't ask his wife anything as his asylum is mainly based on his past experience.

Any idea is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Most of the time only the principal applicant is asked questions. I have seen the spouse being asked one or two questions though.

Thank you guys for sharing!

Two of my friends (applicant) told me that their spouses and kids were not even asked into the interview rooms.
