I went to the the U.S. embassy in Delhi yesterday to get a U.S. visa. they denied my visa application by saying that i needed to get a lawyer in the U.S. to file a petition on my behalf and walk me through with the application process.

I was living in the U.S. previously on a student visa and had received a DUI once. I didnot show up at the court hearings as i moved back to India right afer that. Apparently there was a warrant out in my name for 5 years as i did not show up at the court hearing. I recently called a DUI lawyer and he helped me call back my warrant. My court date is now rescheduled for 23rd of may and i need to get a visa in order to appear in court to resolve this matter.

My question is that do i need to get an immigration lawyer????? can my dui lawyer not file for a petition on my behalf??? And how long will it take for the lawyer to file a petiton for me to get a visa???? will i be able to make it to my court hearing of 23rd may on time????

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.

Something is not right here. Were you applying for a B-2 visa? That visa has no "petition process" at all. What was the visa refusal code you were given?
