Need Some Advice about Winning DV and Moving House

Hey Guys,

I didn't win my Green Card Sadly but I'm going to try again this year.
Anyways my Question is...

If I put my current address down on the Form online to win the Green Card and I move out or decide to go to the US to work I'm curious about a few small things..

1) If I'm living in a Different house/address when I win but I still get the letter forwarded to me from the Old house can I still go for the interview?

2) If I'm in the USA working and I get the note do I have to fly back to Australia for the interview or can I get the letter posted to me in the USA and then go from there?

1) yes, of course.
2) you can choose to do consular processing or adjustment of status in the US.

Where and how you got your notification letter is irrelevant.

One Last Question, I Figured I'd post it here rather than opening a New Post.

Is there any kind of Visa I can get that will let me -

' Go to the USA for X amount of Time with the purpose of looking for work '
' Find Work, Lets say I worked at Walmart, It's basic and low pay '
' Lets me stay as long as I work '

While I try get my Green Card. Is that possible?

I'm only after a Basic job, you know like a Back Packer kind of thing, Maybe Working at a Video store or Something for 6 months.

I have been telling this to people for years, you have no idea how hard it is to get work authorisation for the US, that is why winning the DV is such a good thing for those that want to go and live there. It is madness that the US does not have a casual work program like the ones in the UK/Ireland/Australia, the kind of go and work there for a year sort of thing. In short there are a few main ways to get US work authorisation, marry a US citizen, family sponsorship, get a company to sort out your visa though sponsorship or win the DV lottery! Winning the DV lottery is probably the most straightforward way, but the odds of winning it are ridiculous, for example I am one of about 25000 people in the EU selected from 1.2 million applicants. I have been doing the DV for years.
There are a few exceptions to the rules above, you can get a J1 visa, I got two of them when I was in college, but I think you have to be registered as a fulltime student in your home country or something like that I don’t really know the in’s and out’s of it, a travel company did the whole thing for me.
Anyway sorry to be the barer of bad news but getting legal work authorisation for the US is nothing shore of a minor miracle if you ask me….

You are wrong, there are MANY countries that are THIS strict. Also there are many that are much stricter.
There are very few countries in the world which let any foreign national work indefinitely doing work that is basic and low pay. [ Aside from special cases such as EU countries not having work restrictions for nationals of other EU countries etc.]
If you want to go to Canada for X amount of time with the purpose of finding work, do a basic job with low pay and stay for as long as you work, there is no such visa for that either.

Since after 9/11, the united states has been the most difficult country to issue a visa (any kind of visa) to foreign Nationals. Take it or leave it.
And if you decide to stand in line like the most of us trying to get employment based greencards, the priority dates are sometimes 5years behind depending on your educational qualifications.

I think what upgraded meant was that he could stay for a period “as long as he works”. I am sure upgraded realised that in general non immigrant visas issued by all countries tend to have a limited time frame, 1/2/4/5 years or what ever it might be. There are some visas that become invalid if you are not working, I am sure that is what upgraded was getting at.

Fair enough. I didn't think of that possibility and took "as long as I work" to mean staying for any length of time provided that one works. Now that you pointed it out I agree that Upgraded must have meant what you stated.

Cant argue with you there, The working holiday visa’s are also highly restrictive and have loads of terms and conditions!

Welcome to the complex world that is…….. wait for it, US immigration!!! It’s a complex system and to state it in US terms: “a real pain in the ASS”
I have spent years reading up about it and I have only tipped the iceberg I reckon.

Unfortunately the short answer to this is, you can’t really get a visa to do this. The main way people get US work authorisation is through company sponsored H visas, as far as I can tell. These visa’s tend to be for profession jobs, there is a lot of hoop jumping to get them and they are costly as far as I can tell, so a company like say walmart is not going to shell out $$$’s to get you a H visa when they can just hire unskilled labour locally.

I think really the only way you MAY be able to get US work authorisation is through a J visa, but I am not sure of how they work to be honest. These are temporary student visas and you MAY have to be a student to get one, I am just not sure.

US immigration seems like an all or nothing game to me, I have always wanted to go and work/live there but I was never prepared to be under compliant to a company on a H visa, you are kind of trapped working for the company as its difficult to switch jobs I think.

I would like to get a 2/3 year visa to work where I like, and then maybe come home, or stay on depending on how things went. The absence of such a visa has forced me into applying for the DV ever year to become a total immigrant, its ridiculous!!! So enter DV-2009, try your luck! I would not be depending on it though, the odds are ludicrous if you ask me.
