Hello,

I'm in the process of applying for Canadian Immigration as a Skilled worker. I have a question regarding the English language requirement:

1) Is computer based TOEFL (TOEFL iBT, latest version) accepted instead of IELTS.
2) Can someone apply before taking the test?

I have taken the TOEFL iBT (latest version) and i scored 95 in the last 6 months and wondering if that should be enough to satisfy the requirement for English language proficiency. Does someone has any experience with that or knows the answer to this please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Cheers,
RR

They don't require TOEFL, iBT or any other test.

Just go ahead and apply. When you are called in for an interview thats when the interviewer will talk to you in English and French if you marked it and based on your response he/she will guage whethere you are profeicient in the language or not.

If you mother spoken lang is not English you will be asked to submit IELTS score. You can try writting a letter explaining what you do and how you use english lang and your information on TOEFL but but it won't matter. You might as well take the test and get the monkey of your back.

I submitted my app in Dec 2005 and it came back within 1 month asking to take IELTS. I have seen some fellas getting lucky ( yes luckly) without having to do IELTS but off lately they want every with non english language to take it despite you might have stayed in US for 10 years and did your masters etc.

This is not a requirement just a recommendation.

You can apply without ever taking the test. If you are applying from a third world country then you should take the test since interviewer’s in those regions seem to be more picky than the ones in the West.
