I am US PR for 11 years now. I just renewed my GC without any hassles. I want to apply for Citizenship, but am afraid to do so for the following reasons.

- I was out of USA for about 3 years (34.5 months to be exact with 4 visits to USA ranging from 8 days to 30 days) after becoming PR in order to take care of my Octogenarian grand mother to whom I was the only family.
- I went to my country and worked there for US companies for the entire duration of about 3 years as I was the only earning member of the family. I was transferred to USA by my employer, a US based multinational IT company.
- I never intended to abandon my GC. I lived in USA for 11.5 years altogether as student + employee before going to my country.
- I am in US for the last 5 years 3 months with 2 months spent outside. When I was out of country for long duration, I filed my taxes. However, my CA state tax form says 540NR as that form is used for even partial residents. My federal returns are 1040.
- I have shown my foreign income during those 3 years outside USA on tax returns.
- I had a local address all the time I was outside USA. I did not have a house of my own though, but I used my uncle's home address where I lived for last 4 months before going to my home country and 7 years altogether as my official residence in USA.
- I applied for re-entry permit 1.5 months before I left and it took then INS about 15 months to issue me the permit. I made 2 trips to USA during that time with 1 trip longer of 181 days.
- When I finally returned to US, my re-entry permit was still valid for another 4 months.
- I have no criminal records at all. I have only 1 speeding and 3 parking tickets altogether.
- I was unemployed for 5 months before I went back to my country. That is the only period of unemployment in my entire career. However, that was not the reason for me to go to my home country.

Is my fear of my n-400 application getting denied and loosing my GC as well as it might be perceived as abandoned due to my long stay outside justified?

I am living in USA past 20 years now with 3 years outside.

What you have done seems about ok. They are unlikely to scrutinize things past the statutory 5 year limit in detail. Chances of denial are low.
They admitted you on your return which implies your green card is not questioned ... except a hypothetical situation if you lied to re-enter (if you said you traveled out for 5 days when you really traveled for 8 months).

You say that you have been back for over 5 years now with little travel. You have overcome the disruption in residence and they never took away your status. You are good to go for an N-400 and have been for well over a year. Which local office will you have to process through? Perhaps you can get some pointers specific to that office---parking situation, time frame, same day oath availability....

Good Luck.
