I came to the United States on a fulbright fellowship sponsored by the department of sate and institute of international education on a J1 visa with a 2 year home residency requirement. then I applied for asylum and it's been granted. now I want to tell the department of state and IIE , do you think that will jeopardize my status I mean what if they said you were supposed to go to your country!
and I have another inquiry please, I read my DS2019 form and there is a part that says:" exchange visitors are expected to leave the united states upon completion of their program. exchange visitors who are subject to the 2 year home country physical presence requirement are not eligible to change their status while in the united states to any other non immigrant category except that of official or employee of a foreign government or international organization" what does that mean?
