My parents were interviewed for citizenship last week. My mother is 69 and father is 71 they have not worked in last 8 years and had no income. Their interview went well and they passed the english and civics test. They were told everything is fine but they need to provide additional documentation. basically the letter state they need to show if they owe anything to IRS and if they do then show if they have a payment plan. However they never filed a tax return since they had no income.Anybody has experience like this, I could not find a way to get this from IRS on their website. Please let me know how I can get this information.

Thanks

Have you actually spoken with someone in IRS? Call them up and ask them to prvide a letter for your parents.

You need to contact IRS for a letter saying that they do not owe any taxes and if they do, need to provide the payment plan. We had a similar situation for ourselves. We had an error in prior year tax returns, we sent the amended forms and and waiting for response from IRS. It usually takes 3-5 weeks to get a response. If they do not owe any taxes, you may get a letter immediately and you can submit the requested info to move onto next level of citizenship process.

Is crazy how this changes from IO from IO my mom had the same situation (she doesn't work) but had no problem with it at all. She said that they asked her who provides for her and she answered "my husband" and they went on to another question....

You sure about the "no income" part? Pensions are normally considered income for tax purposes.
