Hi All,

I had just been to the local immigration office and the lady there told me that my name check is pending. I would really appreciate if anybody can tell me what next steps should i take. Also I would really appreciate if somebody would provide me with the names os senator's or congressman to whom I can really approach on this case.

Begreen,
You can locate the congressperson for your district using this link:
http://www.house.gov/writerep/

You can locate your Senator's for NJ using this link:
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm?State=NJ

Once you find the congressperson and your senators, follow those links to obtain contact information. Most likely they would have local offices close to where you are. Get that address and send them letters asking for help. Congresspersons and Senators cannot expedite the name check process, and they'd probably tell you that right off the bat, but there are instances where folks have found people willing to help and request the FBI for expeditious handling of the case. Even if they state that they cannot help expedite your name checks, the odds of your file being dusted off at the FBI are high, so you really don't have anything to loose. A lot of folks, self included, have also written to the First Lady's office. They forward the letter to the Dept of Justice and consequently the FBI. The odds are 50-50 (perhaps higher) that they would act on a request forwarded by the White House (didn't work in my case), but again, it might help in getting the dust off your file. This takes about three months from the day you send the First Lady a letter.
Search the forums for templates of letters that others have sent and you will find a wide array of letters.
Good luck.

Thanks ks_cc appreciated

Begreen, you can get the list of relevant Congressmen from the links provided by ks_cc.

The responses from Congressmen vary across states/districts.

About 10 days ago, I wrote to 2 Congressmen. One of them emailed me that they have placed a "congressional inquiry" with the USCIS. Another Congressman mailed me that they have requested FBI to "expeditiously process" my namecheck.

I believe I was just lucky to have this second Congressman who was willing to request FBI to expedite namecheck processing for me.

From what I have heard from others, usually most Congressmen just place an inquiry. In either case, as long as a Congressman writes to the FBI or the USCIS, that ensures that some officer dusts off your file and looks into your case - which is always good.

Contacting the First Lady is another option.

So try out all the options since your case is almost 3 years old.

Good luck!
