Hi All,

I have a situation as follows..

I have my maiden name on my passport and H1 approval notice, since I came to US before my marriage. However, after marriage when my husband filed for his I-485, I changed my last name to my husbands last name on the I-485 form ( with marriage certificate as proof). Now, I have my EAD issued with my new last name.

If I want to use my EAD, do I need to change my name on my passport also? (to match that on my EAD)
Do I need to change my name on the original degree certificates and other transcripts? or is it sufficient to have my marriage certificate as proof?

Also, if any one has done a name change on passport it would be helpful if I can get details as to how/where to get it done.

If someone has had a similar situation I would appreciate a response. Also, any opinions/suggesstions with reasons are also appreciated.

Thanks.

You are perfectly fine they way it is. You can use your EAD with the new name and passport with the old one.

HOWEVER, I would strongly recommend that you contact your embassy/counsulate in the US and have the name on passport changed.

No need to do the same for educational credentials. Marriage certificate is enough to prove your old name.

Download this form and send it to appropriate Indian Consulate for name change on passport. It is always a good idea to keep the passport, EAD, Drivers License etc., updated with current information. Go to http://www.infoseek.com and search for "Indian Consulate General". Here are couple of usefule ones. Findout phone number of atleast one consulate and call them to get details. They will give you proper phone number to call and websites, fax number etc.,:

Website: http://www.indiacgny.org (Click on Consular Services and then go to Passport Section)
Form: http://www.indiacgny.org/pdfs/misc.pdf (I am not sure this is right one. But I think it is.)
