hi! recently i got the 'adjustment of status receipt letter' after filing I-485. The receipt has only file number which starts with 'A' and 8 digit numbers after. is it my alien number? if so, can i apply federal finacial aid with only this number? i am still waiting the finger-printing and interview. if you have any idea, please let me know. thanks appreciate!!

You could apply for unemployment benefits but ...

It is advised that you don't do so. The basic premise of your green card application is that there is a job in the US economy that requires your skills. If you apply for unemployment benefits then you are going against that premise, whereby your application has a strong possibility to receive an RFE and a possible denial.

Ask a lawyer for further clarification, don't make a decision of this magnitude by what you read on the forums.

hi! 140_takes_4ever. thanks for your advice. i apologize that i didn't mension my status correctly. actually i applied GC as family-based (my father is citizen.) and i am a college student who need lots of money for tuition. the federal financial aid means student loan. again i am sorry for giving my info. incorrectly. please give any idea if you have. any idea will be really helpful for me. thanks

Ah you are one of the lucky ones! :).

Don't think you will have a problem with applying for financial aid. But you might want to check with a lawyer to make 100 % sure. I feel the A# should be enough.

Good luck.

I think it's better to ask someone in financial aid office at your school. What a school requires for financial aid application may vary from school to school.

Hi

Most of the federal lons are for american citizens. You wont get much bebefits for GC. Check with your college.
