I am currently in F-1 status (changed from R-1 to F-1 while in the United States); have mailed the whole package (I-485, I-131 etc.) a couple of weeks ago. Adjustment of status is based on a marriage to a USC. We got married about a month ago in the US and are planning to go back to my homecountry for celebration there with relatives and friends, besides my passport expires in less than a year and I was planning to reniew my passport while we would be there. I was assuming all along that my docs will be processed by Charlotte Field Office (as a resident of NC), however I have received a Receip Notice from the National Benefits Center in MO and my understanding that they will be handling my I-131 and they are pretty backed up...
My dilemma is that it looks like it takes at least 3 months to get AP and the reason why I cannot wait that long is that I start school in mid August and just recently signed with a firm to start working for them in January, so definately might not have a chance to travel back to change my passport before it expired unless it's this summer...
Any advise on what might be the best way to speed up the process??
Thank you very much for any advise with this situation!!
