NEED advise with I-131 (Advance Parole)

I am currently in F-1 status (changed from R-1 to F-1 while in the United States); have mailed the whole package (I-485, I-131 etc.) a couple of weeks ago. Adjustment of status is based on a marriage to a USC. We got married about a month ago in the US and are planning to go back to my homecountry for celebration there with relatives and friends, besides my passport expires in less than a year and I was planning to reniew my passport while we would be there. I was assuming all along that my docs will be processed by Charlotte Field Office (as a resident of NC), however I have received a Receip Notice from the National Benefits Center in MO and my understanding that they will be handling my I-131 and they are pretty backed up...

My dilemma is that it looks like it takes at least 3 months to get AP and the reason why I cannot wait that long is that I start school in mid August and just recently signed with a firm to start working for them in January, so definately might not have a chance to travel back to change my passport before it expired unless it's this summer...

Any advise on what might be the best way to speed up the process??

Thank you very much for any advise with this situation!!

AP applications won't be expedited unless there is a real life and death situation. Most people seem to be getting AP in about 2 months lately. I did too when I applied for it. So you might get it sooner than you thought. On the other hand, I would think that you can renew your passport through your home country's consulate in the US, right? Goood luck!

Thank you for your reply. I am wondering how exactly it works. Right now my papers are at NBC, however according to my residensy Charlotte, NC is supposed to consider my papers. What dates do I use as a guide for how long it is going to take? Thanks so much again!

For AOS applications, I believe that all AP and EAD applications are processed at the NBC. I got mine in a little over 2 months.

You can get a new passport at your embassy in D.C.

thanks ndc121. it looks like your receipt notice was dated April 3 and your AP has been approved on June 3, which makes it exactly 2 months. I think what throws me off are the processing dates on the NBC website. It looks like they are currenty processing only April 9 applications...was it similar when you mailed your papers??

Another question I have is this - I am involved with a small non-profit organization in some humanitarian projects with them and they want me to come as a volunteer with them overseas this summer as a translator (they have offered to write a letter and even contact their person at the local Senator's office to see if they would help), its not an emergency, however it looks like its somewhat humanitarian situation with a not-for-profit organization requesting expedition and US government implicated...Is that something that is worth exploring?? Can that help to expidite my AP?? Thanks so much!

You probably want to go by the AP processing dates for NBC for your case. Look at your local DO processing dates only for your I-485. I don't think USCIS will consider your situation to expedite the AP processing. But there is no harm trying.

if you know your address overseas, and if you have someone reliable here who is going to pick up your mail, you could have the AP posted to you....as you only need it when you get back into the country....you could get someone here to Fedex International or UPS it...fedex is safe and reliable cuz my mom sends me things all the time for years now...i don't know abt UPS....

Well, not everybody gets their AP in under 2 months. I got my AP after 4 months.

They will not expediate the AP, unless it's a life or death situation. Unfortunately, the CIS is not very accomodating in such aspects  I know from personal experience

Is there any indicator on how long it will take process I-131. I mean do factors like, my geographical location, basis for filing and other play a part in the process? It looks like the dates that are posted on NBC do not really match the reality (well probably like most of the processing dates posted on uscis.gov), however is there a chance it will take less than what it says on the website??

They don't update the dates all the time. The better is to check out with people who are in your same DO or at least with your same date of receipt notices and are applying for the same benefit as you/marriage cases.

I think that you must consider that independently how long the process would take you need the AP.

There is always a chance that things can be faster than average or slower than average nobody knows exactly.

It looks like NBC has just updated their processing dates. And as of July 12 they are processing apps. for AP dated April 23, which means that they are 2.5 months behind...Is there a possibility of getting it earlier than 2.5 months? another thing I am wondering about is this - when do they send the notice for the interview at the local DO? It has been about 2.5 weeks since the date of RNs
