Need advise on AP filing date

My current AP is going expire on today (sorry, I realized a bit late). I am going to send AP renewal application today (I don’t have any travel plans in next 6 months).

Is it ok to renew the AP after it expired? Or are we supposed (by law) to send the application before the existing AP expiration data?
 
No such restrictions are there for renewing AP.
Go ahead applying AP asap as it is taking around 5 month to get AP approval these days. Good luck
