I just realised I forgot to mention a trip to Canada I made several years ago.

I drove there for a week-end and since I drove there are no stampings on my passport.

Can I just add this on a N400 form and hand it in during the interview ?

What do you guys think ?

Yes, you can ammend this information during the interview. However, it is going to beg the question of not having proof for this trip, which I perfectly understand in land crossings. I hope everything works out well and doesn't cause you any delay. It would be good if you could collect credit card info that can show you were in Canada on those dates, and in the U.S. right before and after the trip.

Huracan,
I just noticed your signature that you received interview notice. Congratulations :) . So finally its your turn to share the good news.

I usually read you answering patiently to the questions posed by newbies. When I was going through my naturalization process, learned a lot about this process from reading your posts.

Once again Congratulations! Goodluck and have fun.

Hi Prasad,

Thanks for your kind words. Yes, the interview letter is definitely good news. It lifts a big cloud from over my head, as it should indicate that name check is done, and I can plan my summer around the date. Sometimes I have more patience to answer than at other times. In general I try to be useful, but everyone has a bad day someday.

I think my case is a bit more interesting than others because I have been posting from the beginning, even from the times of my green card, so I am not just posting because I had a big issue/crisis. That should mean that my case is a pretty typical case, and I think it is so far, at least for San Jose. However, I know of people who have also been posting from the beginning and their cases have become exceptional (delays, request for additional info at interview, name checks, etc.).

This forum is great, lot of people participating, and most of the information is very useful. It has also helped me a lot. Thanks for hanging around.

Yup, just bring it up during the interview. You shouldn't need to provide proof for a short (forgetable) trip to Canada.

If it were me, I'd bring it up before the IO asks (as he is about to start asking "trip" questions). Say something like "I was concentrating so hard getting all my long distance trips right, I forgot this small trip I took to Canada in XXXX"

You can also hand the IO an amended form. I had that ready for all the sections on which changes needed to be made. She refused it, simply updating the main form with my changes.

I don't think there's a way nor a need to provide proof of every single trip abroad you took after getting your green card.

For one, a lot of times they don't even stamp your passport when you reenter the country as a green card holder. This has been my experience.

What are others' expericences?

PS: I would think that the need to provide proof of trips abroad becomes necessary when you are trying to show that any single trip you took was not 6 months or longer. That's what they are interested in knowing.

I had the same thing happen. I didn't even think about it, but instead of putting down a weekend trip to Canada, I put down a 6 week trip to India that was actually before I had my green card and on another status.

In the interview he looked at the dates for India and just crossed it off as it wasn't a valid trip to consider and then he just asked if I had taken any other trips. I just remembered on the spot another weekend one. He laughed and just put a note that I went there and adjusted the number of days I was out of the country total since my PR. (Cool I traded 6 weeks in India for 4 in Canada) so made it look like I barely left the country...

Thanks for all your responses, makes me feel better.

Since getting my GC I've made only two trips to India for about 3 weeks each and this trip to Canada for 2 days, so I guess I should be ok.

I'll take a amended copy just in case.

Yeah that's all in the realm of normality for trips. They'll just go over the trips you have made and then ask if there are any you forgot about. Plus you will have your passport so they'll see in there the details.

Like I said, I forgot a 3 day trip to Canada and when he asked I remembered and it wasn't an issue at all. He just adjusted the days out of the country since I had got my green card...

Nothing at all was made of my trips (mostly to Canada, some to Europe). I would expect that only when you get to the edge of the Continuous Residence or Physical Presence rules does providing documentation about your trips get important. In my case I was very far from getting close to either of those conditions.

But, the IO can ask about anything...
